Some TVs make "50" or "5" or whatever is in the middle the correct setting and actually blur the image below this. Sharpness - The proper setting for this is almost always "0." This isn't ALWAYS the case though.
Obviously you will get the best colors by using a colorimeter but that gets expensive and isn't really necessary unless you're really into this stuff.
Many TVs oversaturate the color red (along with many television signals doing the same thing), so calibrating to red with your color and tint settings often gets you a better image than calibrating to blue (ok) or green (usually terrible). Find a good red filter (usually included with the calibration discs) and use that instead. Just make sure your backlight is turned down (30-40% or so) and the image won't be blinding but will pop.īrightness - This one is easy too since you just turn down the brightness until you can no longer see a certain shade of black in the test pattern.Ĭolor/Tint - Don't trust the blue THX glasses/filters. On Samsung TVs this is normally in the mid to high 90s, so don't be scared of a high contrast setting. Turn it back down until it goes away and there you go. So yeah, choose the one that gives more red than blue generally. Pretty much, you should see more of a reddish tint in a typical greyscale pattern. "Warm" is usually correct, though some Samsung TVs have greenish/blueish "Very Warm" settings. At the very least use it for brightness and contrast settings.Ĭolor Temperature - Never choose "Cool." Calibration settings always change depending on the TV and the viewing environment. There is a lot of bad info in this thread.
